Advance Voting Open July 12-16
You don't need to wait until July 20th to cast your vote. For many years while working with people with disabilities and older Georgians I advocated for voting to open sooner than just one day. You could always vote absentee ballot, but I like to physically go to the polling booth. It feels real. I spoke with many senior citizens and people with disabilities who told me going to cast their ballot in person felt right. I am glad our advocacy paid off.
I am glad to see over the years we have expanded advance voting and can vote in person across the state. Citizens in Clayton and Henry County have many locations they can go to vote this week.
In Clayton you can find the locations by clicking here.
In Henry you can find the locations by clicking here.
Don't forget to take your ID with you. You need a form of identification to vote in person. There are six forms of identification accepted and you only need to bring one. To verify this information please visit the Secretary of State's Voter Requirements page.
- Valid state or federal government issued photo ID
- Georgia Driver's License, even expired
- Valid employee photo ID from federal, state or local government
- Valid US Passport ID
- Valid US military photo ID
- Valid tribal photo ID
In addition, the Georgia Secretary of State has a link on their site to help you locate your precinct's polling location for July 20th and the candidates. So please visit My Voter Page to find this information.
July 6
While talking with friends and neighbors I am hearing over and over a few themes/concerns pop-up. They are:
- How to we bring back and create good jobs?
- What can we do about the schools?
- I have worked hard and saved all my life, now my property value has plummeted, what is going to happen to my retirement?
- I don't feel safe anymore, what can be done about crime?
They all boil down to one big issue - Quality of Life. Many different groups and individuals have asked me the following questions so I wanted to share my responses with you.
Why are you the best candidate for this position?
I have a deep belief in our democracy. My parents both served in the Army, with my dad retiring after a life long career defending America. Their service created a strong commitment in me to serve others. I know it is time for a change in leadership. I am running for the State Senate to defend our democracy and bring a strong and committed voice to the State Capitol for the citizens of Clayton and Henry Counties. I have lived in the District for 22 years. I am the only candidate in this race who has the perspective of living in both counties. The needs of each county are different but the challenges in both are just as great.
What is the biggest issue facing our area and how would you address it as Senator?
The big issue is overall Quality of Life! My neighbors, friends and family are worried about jobs, property values, schools and crime. I got into this campaign because I am worried about our quality of life. The real question is - what can a State Senator do to make a difference. I will work to fully fund education that is more than half of the state budget and has been cut severely over the last few years. Good education leads to a qualified work force and job creation from business owners. I will introduce and help enact laws that support transportation infrastructure, crime prevention, and proactive approaches to keep our energy costs down and our environment protected. I have 22 years of experience working with federal, state and local governments and organizations. I will bring groups together to find solutions and enhance our quality of life.
